The 7th CLMV Leadership Program in Japan (FY2013)


Outline


Under the theme of " Promotion of Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) for the Economic Development," IIST introduced Japan's policies to foster and develop SMEs to senior officials of governments and economic organizations of Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar, and Viet Nam (CLMV countries). In order to deepen the understanding of participants, explanations were given at companies and other places visited of how these policies are integrated into economic activity, especially in the regions. As well as hearing an explanation of policies from the Small and Medium Enterprise Agency of the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry, which supported the program, the participants visited companies in Tokyo and Hamamatsu and held discussions there. The Organization for Small & Medium Enterprises and Regional Innovation, Japan (SMRJ), Hamamatsu Chamber of Commerce and Industry, and Sumida City Office cooperated in the program.

Overview


The participants received briefing from MET, SMRJ and the Hamamatsu Chamber of Commerce and Industry, thereby deepened their understanding of Japan's policies for SMEs. They also visited companies, including SMEs in Hamamatsu and Tokyo, learned how these companies were utilizing promotional measures and companies' efforts to develop human resources and technologies.
